Gear Effects are different from Enchantments. Open Enchantments

Never rolls randomly. It only comes attached to specific Unique gear or Talismans.

Three different systems

Effect vs Enchantment vs Status

These three are constantly mixed up, and the game never explains them together. A Gear Effect comes with the item, an Enchantment is added later from a book, and a Status is a temporary combat state.

  1. Gear Effect

    Rolled on the item

A Gear Effect is already part of the item when it drops. It is the randomly rolled modifier that decides how good the piece actually is.

    Example: Sharpness

  2. Enchantment

    Added from a book

An Enchantment is not part of the drop. You collect a book and apply it later through the Enchantsmith, so it is a choice you make, not a roll you get.

    Example: Fire Aspect

  3. Status

    Temporary combat state

A Status is applied to a player or an enemy during combat and expires on its own. It is a state, not a modifier that sits on your gear.

    Example: Burned

Two gear pieces can look identical and still behave differently, because the randomly rolled Effect is what changes. Enchantments are a separate layer you add after the drop.

How effect pools work

Why Can This Effect Roll Here?

A piece does not roll from all 73 effects. Its gear type, its build tendency and its element narrow the list down to the effects it is eligible for.

  1. Step 1

    Gear type pool

Weapons, armor and artifacts each have their own pool. Some effects only exist for one of the three.

  2. Step 2

    Build tendency pool

Within a gear type, a family can lean towards a role such as defensive, ranged or companion gear. That tendency adds effects the family can roll.

  3. Step 3

    Element pool

Elemental gear can also roll effects for its element, which is why a Frost weapon and a Poison weapon can end up with different options.

Pool membership comes from the verified relation data. We never guess compatibility from a similar-sounding name.

Random effect rules

How Many Effects Can Gear Have?

Item rarity decides how many random Effects an item can carry. That is why a Common piece can look completely empty.

RarityRandom effectsFixed Unique effectMaximum effects
Common04
Rare14
Special24
Unique14

An item can ultimately hold up to four Effects under the game's effect model.

Why Common gear looks empty

Common gear rolls zero random Effects, so a Common armor piece can appear to have nothing at all. The piece is not broken; it simply has no random modifier slot filled.

Rarity only controls how many Effects an item carries. Which tiers are available is a separate system that depends on your Threat level.

These 12 effects do not randomly roll on normal gear. If you keep farming for one, this is why it never appears — it only comes attached to specific Unique gear or Talismans.

A related Talisman is a similar passive concept, not necessarily the same effect. We only mark a relation as a source when it comes directly from a Unique item's own fixed effect.

Find by goal

What Do You Want Your Gear to Improve?

Start from the outcome you want instead of an internal role name, then look for the pieces that can roll these effects.

Goal tags follow what an effect actually does. One effect can support more than one goal, and these tags are not a class system.

Eligibility check

Why Can't My Item Roll This Effect?

Pick a piece and an effect to see whether it is eligible, and if it is not, what that item can roll instead.

Choose both an item and an effect to check eligibility.

Eligibility is not a drop chance. A compatible effect still has to be rolled, and the exact probability is not published data.

When Do Higher Effect Tiers Appear?

Tier availability is tied to your Threat level, not to item rarity. Effect tiers and item rarity are two different systems.

  2. Tier II

  3. Tier III

Related systems

Effect ↔ Talisman

Some Talismans provide a passive in the same role as a Gear Effect. These are the recovered relations between the two systems.

These are related passive concepts, not the same system. A Talisman provides a similar role; it does not grant the Gear Effect itself.

Effects vs statuses

Gear Effects Are Not Status Effects

A Status is a temporary combat state on a player or an enemy, not a modifier on your gear. Artifacts are the main source of statuses.

Gear Effect

Persistent item modifier

A Gear Effect stays on the item and works whenever its condition is met. It is part of the build, not a timer.

Example: Sharpness always increases melee damage on that weapon.

Status

Temporary combat state

A Status is applied during combat, lasts a set duration and then expires. It can be positive or negative.

Example: Strengthened increases damage for a few seconds.

Recovered Artifact → Status relations

Status coverage is still growing and currently closes through Artifacts. We keep it explained inside this hub instead of publishing thin Status pages before the data supports them.

Effects for builds

Which Effects Fit Your Build?

Effects are the modifier layer a build collects. Start from the playstyle you are building and look for the effects that support it.

The same effect can fit several playstyles. Treat these as starting points, then check which gear can actually roll them.
