Quick answer

A strong melee build starts with the weapon's actual attack pattern, then uses armor, enchantments, artifacts and talismans to reinforce that pattern instead of simply stacking the highest item power.

Choose your melee style

Choose Your Melee Style

Melee weapons do not all play the same way. Pick the attack pattern you enjoy and the rest of the build falls into place.

How a melee build works

How a Melee Build Fits Together

The weapon sets the attack loop. Everything else either supports that loop, amplifies it or keeps you alive while it runs.

  1. Melee weaponSets the primary attack loop
  2. Ranged weaponUtility, coverage and engage
  3. ArmorDamage, speed and survivability
  4. ArtifactsBurst, control and defense
  5. TalismansPassive playstyle reinforcement
  6. EnchantmentsAmplifies the whole loop

A melee build is not just one strong weapon. Armor, enchantments, artifacts, talismans and even the ranged slot each have a job, and the build only works when they support the same plan.

Execution

How to Play It

Three steps per style, not a wall of theory. Learn the loop, then repeat it.

Fast / Crit

  1. 1.Open with fast hits to start on-hit and crit effects.
  2. 2.Keep moving between swings instead of standing still.
  3. 3.Save a roll or dash to leave when a heavy hit lands.

Heavy / Burst

  1. 1.Wait for the opening, then land the full combo.
  2. 2.Use jump attacks and burst artifacts inside the window.
  3. 3.Back off and reset when the boss recovers.

Sustain / Bruiser

  1. 1.Engage and let healing and on-kill effects start.
  2. 2.Stay in range so sustain keeps ticking.
  3. 3.Trade hits only while your defensive cooldown is up.

Crowd Control

  1. 1.Group enemies before committing to wide swings.
  2. 2.Use control artifacts to hold the pack together.
  3. 3.Clear the edges first so nothing flanks you.
