Calculator
The chance that one gear item from a source is Common, Rare, Special or Unique.
Target rarity
Result
Unique chance
12.73%
per gear item from this source
At Threat 10 on Normal, one gear item from Boss has this Unique share.
This is the rarity share of one gear item, not the chance that the source drops gear at all, and not the chance of a named item.
Full distribution
Rarity distribution of one gear item
Base weight x difficulty modifier x Threat multiplier, then normalized. The four rows always add up to 100%.

Source comparison
Which source has the highest share at this Threat
Same Difficulty and Threat, every recovered source side by side. Share is per gear item.
- Soul Storm reward chest16.09%
- Boss12.73%
- Fancy chest7.53%
- Miniboss7.53%
- Piggy bank mob7.53%
- Wooden chest5.93%
- Regular enemy4.90%
- Quest reward3.06%
Soul Storm reward chest has the highest Unique share per individual gear item at this Threat.
This does not account for source frequency, clear time, item pool, target eligibility or the number of items per event, so it is not a farm ranking.
Threat curve
Unique across Threat 1–20
Every point is a recovered Threat level. Nothing here is interpolated.
Unique share for Boss
The Unique multiplier reaches full weight at Threat 13, but the final percentage can still move afterwards because the other rarity weights keep changing the denominator.
When a rarity becomes available
Recovered rarity milestones. Below the first Threat of a rarity, its share is exactly zero.
Threat 2
Special rarity starts appearing
Threat 4
Unique rarity starts appearing
Threat 13
Unique multiplier reaches full weight
Event odds
Chance per kill
An enemy contract can guarantee gear rolls on top of random ones. The event chance combines both instead of treating a conditional rarity share as a per-kill chance.
Miniboss gear contract
- 1 guaranteed gear roll
- 4 additional rolls at 13.10% each
- Gear drop layer
- 100.00%
- Rarity layer
- 12.73%
- Event layer
- 18.40%
- Expected Unique items per kill
- 0.194
P(at least one) = 1 − (1 − q)^g × (1 − p × q)^r, where g is guaranteed gear, r is random rolls, p is the roll chance and q is the rarity share.
This is the chance of any Unique gear, not of one named Unique item.
Attempts
How many rolls for a confidence level
Each attempt is one gear roll resolved against the current rarity distribution. Attempts are independent.
These are gear-roll attempts, not chests or kills, unless the event mode supplies the exact roll contract.
- Chance of at least one Unique

- Chance of no Unique
- 25.63%
- Expected Unique items

Named item boundary
Why a named item has no exact chance here
A specific item needs two factors: it must first be selected from the source's item pool, and that gear item must then roll the target rarity. Only the second factor is recovered.
Search an item to see which factor is available and which is blocked.
Exact named-item probability stays blocked until the per-item weight share is recovered. We do not back-solve it from rounded public shares.
Four different questions
Gear drop, rarity, event and item chance
Most drop-rate confusion comes from mixing these four layers. This page keeps them apart.
Gear Drop Chance
Whether the source produces a gear item at all. This comes from the enemy gear contract.
Rarity Chance
Given that a gear item dropped, what rarity it rolls. This is the recovered source / difficulty / Threat layer.
Event Chance
Whether one kill or open produces at least one target rarity, after combining guaranteed and random gear rolls.
Specific Item Chance
The chance of one named item. It needs the item selection share, which is not recovered, so this page does not state it.
Why the odds change
Source, difficulty and Threat are three separate rules
Each one multiplies the rarity weights before normalization, so the visible percentage can move even when one input looks unchanged.
Source changes the base weights
A Boss and a regular enemy do not start from the same base weights, so their rarity split differs at the same Threat.
Threat changes the multipliers
Each Threat level has its own multipliers for Common, Rare, Special and Unique. Unique is zero for the first three levels, then climbs.
Threat 13 is not the end of the curve
The Unique multiplier reaches full weight at Threat 13, but the other rarities keep changing, so the normalized Unique share can still rise afterwards.
Difficulty gates Special and Unique
Easy zeroes the Special and Unique random weights, so random Special and Unique drops are disabled there.
Easy cannot produce Special or Unique random gear
If you are hunting Unique gear, Easy is a hard stop rather than a lower chance. Switch to Normal before farming.
Normal and Hard share the same rarity weights
In the recovered rarity layer, Normal and Hard apply the same multipliers. Hard may still change combat and progression, which this page does not model.
Recovered sources
The eight loot sources in the rarity table
These are the sources with a recovered rarity profile. A source without a profile is never guessed.
Regular enemy
The base enemy rarity table. Most regular enemies roll one gear item at a low chance.
Wooden chest
A common container profile with a wider Common weight than a Fancy Chest.
Fancy chest
A better container profile with no Common weight at all, so every gear item is Rare or above.
Miniboss
A named fight with its own profile: no Common weight, a higher Rare weight and one guaranteed gear roll.
Boss
The strongest rarity profile, with the highest Unique weight of the gear sources.
Quest reward
A quest award profile. Quest gear is not selected from a regional pool.
Soul Storm reward chest
The Soul Storm reward-chest rarity profile. The per-open item count is not mapped to this profile, so only the per-gear-item share is shown.
Piggy bank mob
A currency mob that also carries the Fancy Chest rarity weights.
Where to go next
This page is probability. Eligibility lives next door.
Drop odds answer whether a source can roll the rarity. Farm Finder answers whether the source can give your item at all.

How we calculate
The recovered pipeline, step by step
The same pipeline runs for every state, so a result can always be traced back to its rules.
- 1Item selection: membership is known, exact weight is not.
- 2Source base rarity weights.
- 3Difficulty rarity modifier, where Easy zeroes Special and Unique.
- 4Threat rarity multiplier for the selected level.
- 5Normalize the four adjusted weights into a distribution.
- 6Optional event contract: guaranteed and random gear rolls.
- 7Attempts math for at least one, none and expected results.
- Adjusted weight = source weight × difficulty modifier × threat multiplier
- Rarity share = adjusted weight ÷ sum of all adjusted weights
- P(at least one) = 1 − (1 − q)^g × (1 − p × q)^r
- P(at least one in N) = 1 − (1 − e)^N
What this page refuses to compute
It refuses an exact named-item chance and an exact per-open Soul Storm chest chance, because the item weights and the chest-to-rarity-profile mapping are not both closed.
Questions
Drop Odds FAQ
What are the drop rates in Minecraft Dungeons 2?
Drop odds are a rarity distribution per loot source, changed by difficulty and Threat. This page computes Common, Rare, Special and Unique shares from the recovered weights.
What is the Unique drop chance?
It depends on the source, difficulty and Threat. Pick a source above; for example a Boss at Threat 10 on Normal has a far higher Unique share per gear item than a regular enemy.
Why can I not get Uniques on Easy?
Easy sets the Special and Unique random rarity weights to zero, so only Common and Rare random gear can drop. Switch to Normal to re-enable them.
At what Threat do Uniques start dropping?
The Unique multiplier is zero for Threat 1–3 and first becomes positive at Threat 4, then scales up to full weight at Threat 13.
Is Threat 20 the same as Threat 13 for Uniques?
The Unique multiplier is identical from Threat 13 onward, but the other rarity multipliers keep changing, so the normalized Unique percentage can still differ.
Does Threat change the chance that gear drops at all?
No. Threat changes the rarity distribution of a gear item. Whether gear drops is a separate source contract, which the enemy mode handles explicitly.
How many kills do I need for a Unique?
Use the attempts mode with the gear-roll share, or the enemy mode when the enemy's roll contract is recovered. Both give a confidence curve instead of a single promise.
Why is Hard not better than Normal for rarity?
In the recovered rarity layer, Normal and Hard apply the same rarity multipliers. Hard can still matter for combat, progression and rewards elsewhere, which is not this layer.
Why does this page not show the drop chance of my item?
The selection weight of one item inside a loot pool is not recovered. Without it, a specific-item percentage would be invented, so the page shows the rarity factor and marks the item factor unavailable.
Which is better, a Boss or a Fancy Chest?
Compare them with the source comparison above. Higher share per gear item is not automatically a better farm, because kill time, source frequency and per-event item counts are not part of the rarity layer.
