Tier list
The best enchantment depends on your gear, your build and how often you can trigger it. Start by choosing what you are enchanting, then compare eligible enchantments by trigger and build.
What are you enchanting?
Which build are you playing?
Slot eligibility is a gate, not a score: an enchantment that cannot go on your gear is filtered out instead of being ranked lower. Book source is shown separately, because a late-game Book is not automatically stronger.

How ranking works
A tier only makes sense after the enchantment can actually go on your gear and fire in your build loop.
Slot is a gate, not a score. An enchantment that does not fit your gear is filtered out, not rated lower.
The same effect is worth more when your build triggers it often. A kill effect is strong while clearing and weak against a lone boss.
Enchantments are re-ranked for melee, ranged, soul, tank and companion builds, because each family triggers different effects.
This page ranks gameplay value. Book source and availability never raise or lower a combat tier.
Tiers describe how broadly useful an enchantment is when its conditions are met. They are not a replacement for checking your own gear.

Unique-only effects and Unique item variants are listed separately below, because they are not Book upgrades.
Best by build
Each family triggers different effects, so the same enchantment can be S for one build and B for another.
Best by trigger
Start from what you do most in combat: rolling, jumping, using artifacts or finishing combos.
Tier I → II → III
Pick an enchantment to see exactly what changes at each tier before you spend Echo Shards.
Tier I
Potion usage grants 30 souls.
Tier II
Potion usage grants 45 souls.
Tier III
Potion usage grants 60 souls.
Unique effects
Unique is not Tier IV. Some enchantments have an extra variant built into Unique gear, and two effects only exist that way.
A Unique variant is not a Book upgrade. It can be stronger, or it can change how the effect triggers, so it is evaluated with the item that carries it.
These effects are not collectible Books. They appear through Unique gear only, so there is no Book to find.
Reference
Search the whole list and compare tier, slot, role, trigger, best use and Book source in one place.
Book sources
Book source is availability, not power. A late-game Book is not automatically a higher tier.
Any Area books can drop almost anywhere; regional and dungeon books are added on top of that pool.
Next step
A tier tells you what to aim for. These steps handle the rest.
Every enchantment page shows its tier effects, slot eligibility and Book source.

Check CompatibilityThe Enchantsmith guide covers how to apply a Book and upgrade it tier by tier.
