Mojang's latest announcement says the Steam version should now be playable on Steam Deck. The same notice says full Steam Deck verification is still to come and that the on-screen keyboard may not work. This page keeps both facts.

Mojang's Steam Deck update explicitly lists missing on-screen keyboard functionality. This is the most concrete current help task on the Deck.

Quick fix

Press STEAM + X to open the Steam Deck on-screen keyboard manually.

If typing still fails

  1. Press STEAM + X
  2. Does the keyboard appear? If not, the problem is the OSK itself.
  3. Can the field take focus? Tap it, then try again.
  4. Use an external keyboard to confirm the field and the game accept input.

STEAM + X is documented by Valve. If an external keyboard works and the OSK does not, the problem is the on-screen keyboard, not the game.

The Steam store lists online co-op, split-screen and cross-platform multiplayer. That is a feature list, not a Deck-specific network guarantee.

Before blaming the Deck

  1. Does the game launch?
  2. Are you on an online-capable hero or state?
  3. Can you reach online services at all?
  4. Does the failure only happen on invites, party codes, matchmaking or crossplay?

Do I need Proton GE?

After the October 1 update, the default path is the normal Steam Deck environment, not a custom Proton build.

  • Update the game first. The Deck fix shipped through Steam.
  • Return compatibility settings to default before trying a specific tool.
  • Use a custom Proton build only as a diagnosed fallback, and note what you changed.

Third-party scripts and DLL overrides were a launch-week workaround, not the current default.

Is it Steam Deck Verified?

Verification is Valve's rating. Mojang's announcement covers playability, not Valve's verification result.

As of October 4, 2026, full Steam Deck verification is still pending. The game is playable but not confirmed as fully Verified.
