Quick answer
Does Minecraft Dungeons 2 Have Crossplay?
Yes. Minecraft Dungeons 2 supports cross-platform multiplayer across its supported platforms. Party Codes are designed so players can join the same party regardless of platform, and an online party holds up to four players.
Supported platforms
- PC (Steam)
- PC (Microsoft Store)
- Xbox
- PlayStation 5
- Nintendo Switch
- Nintendo Switch 2
Built from official multiplayer and store information. The invite issue reported by some players is labelled as a community report, not a confirmed bug.

Mixed co-op
Local Plus Online Players
Players on one device can carry an online session and let remote friends join. The four-player limit is shared between local and remote players.
Total party
2 / 4
Supported — the party still fits.
Mixed co-op still shares the same four-player limit; it is not four couch players plus four online players.
Compatibility
Full Platform Matrix
Every supported platform can play with every other supported platform. The matrix is generated from each platform's crossplay support instead of a hand-written list of pairs.
| Platform | Crossplay | Online access |
|---|---|---|
| PC (Steam) | Yes | Internet connection |
| PC (Microsoft Store) | Yes | Internet connection |
| Xbox | Yes | Platform online requirements apply |
| PlayStation 5 | Yes | Platform online subscription may be required |
| Nintendo Switch | Yes | Platform online subscription may be required |
| Nintendo Switch 2 | Yes | Platform online subscription may be required |
PC covers both the Steam and the Microsoft Store versions. They are listed separately because sign-in and entitlement paths can differ.
Online requirements
Console Online Access
Console online multiplayer can require that platform's online subscription. Subscription names, tiers and prices change, so this page only states that a requirement may apply.
Check the platform guide for the current subscription rules.
Party code
The 8-Character Party Code
The party code is the unique eight-character, alphanumeric code for the current party. It is the same code for every platform, which makes it the most reliable way to join a specific friend.
Host
- 1.Create or open an online party.
- 2.Open the party menu and find the code.
- 3.Share the eight-character code.
Friend
- 1.Open multiplayer and choose join by party code.
- 2.Enter the eight-character code.
- 3.Join the party.
Already in progress
A party code can also drop a player into a session that has already started.
This site cannot generate a real in-game party code. Only the game can.
Which join method?
Party Code, Friend Invite or Matchmaking
Crossplay works with all three. Which one to use depends on whether you already know who you are playing with.
Friend invite
Invite someone from your platform friends list.
Convenient when the invite is delivered normally.
Matchmaking
The game finds compatible players when you do not have a full party.
For random players, not for joining a specific friend.
Some players report that direct friend invites are unreliable for certain PC and Switch 2 combinations and use a Party Code instead. This is a community report, not an officially confirmed bug.
Account boundary
Crossplay Is Not Cross-Progression
These are two different questions, and mixing them up is the most common crossplay misunderstanding.
Crossplay
Can two different platforms play in the same party? Yes.
Cross-progression
Can the same online hero continue on another platform? If the platform accounts are linked to the same Microsoft account, online hero progression can continue on another supported platform.
Crossplay is about who can play together. Cross-progression is about where your hero data can go. A Microsoft account is not the crossplay switch.
How online heroes workDifferent progress
Can We Play With Different Progress?
Matchmaking and friend joining are separate systems, and progress affects them differently.
Joining a friend with a Party Code
Direct join. Matchmaking quality factors do not block a friend who has the code.
Joining random players
Matchmaking considers main and core quest progress, region and power level. That is for matching quality, not a requirement to group with a friend.
There is no confirmed rule that friends must have identical story or power progress to play together.
DLC sessions
Do You Need the DLC to Join?
Not for a friend's session. A non-owner can join a friend's DLC session with the right method, but cannot matchmake into DLC sessions.
Host owns the DLC
Friend owns the DLC
The friend can join the host's DLC session.
This is not DLC sharing. Joining a friend's session does not grant DLC ownership.
Troubleshooting
Crossplay Not Working? Check These First
Work through these before treating it as a network problem.
- 1Are both games on the same update?
- 2Are the platform online services available?
- 3Is the party code entered correctly and still valid?
- 4Does the party still have an open slot?
- 5Does the console side have online access?
- 6Is the correct online account and hero in use?
- 7Does a Party Code work when the invite does not?
Still can't join?
If crossplay is supported but the connection still fails, this is now an online troubleshooting issue, not a compatibility one.
