How to Fix Minecraft Dungeons 2 Crashing
Find out whether your crash happens at startup, during gameplay, around a repeatable event, or inside the graphics stack before changing drivers or reinstalling.
Don't reinstall first. A launch-week case was fixed by closing a monitoring overlay after two reinstalls had already failed. Reinstalling does not diagnose a runtime conflict.

Mojang's launch update says hotfixes for crashes and stability are being worked on. Not every crash is a local problem, so this page never starts by blaming your PC.
Where does it crash?

- During the intro or logos

Crash types
Not every crash is the same problem
A closed game, a lost multiplayer session and a stutter are different failures. Confirm which one you have before changing settings.
The game closes
The process exits, the window disappears, or a crash report appears. This page owns this failure.
A session ends, the game stays open
You keep playing but the host or party is gone. That belongs to online troubleshooting, not here.
Stutter or low FPS
The game keeps running but drops frames. Treat it as performance, not a crash.
If the whole PC restarts or bluescreens, stop treating it as a game crash and check system stability first.
The crash families seen at launch
Won't launch or stops at a logo
The process opens then exits before the main menu. Overlays and the rendering path are the first suspects.
Crashes during the intro
Reports cluster around the studio logos. The same overlay and renderer checks apply.
Random gameplay crash
It runs for minutes then quits at different places. Runtime stability, driver and tuning come first.
Repeatable area or effect crash
The same location, effect or action always fails. Record the reproduction before reinstalling.
PC freeze, restart or driver reset
The whole system is affected. Check thermals, power and stability instead of game files.
Known patterns
Community crash patterns under watch
These are player reports, not official root causes. Treat them as leads, not confirmed bugs.
Water or falling
Multiple players report crashes when jumping or falling into water.
Explosions
Creeper and explosive attacks have been reported to trigger crashes for some players.
Monitoring overlays
Unreal access-violation crashes have stopped for some players after fully closing MSI Afterburner and RivaTuner.
GPU crash dump
Reports pair a GPU crash dump with a D3D12 path, and a DirectX 11 fallback helped some of them.
None of these has a published official root cause. Record your own trigger instead of assuming one.
Hardware gate
Does your PC meet the official minimum?
Below the minimum, crashes may not be fixable through normal troubleshooting. Meeting the requirement still does not prove the game is bug-free.
- Operating system
- Windows 10 64-bit
- Processor
- Intel i3-8100 / Ryzen 3 2200G equivalent
- Graphics
- GTX 1050 / RX 560 dedicated GPU with 2 GB VRAM
- Memory
- 8 GB RAM
- DirectX
- DirectX 11
Meets the minimum baseline
Below the minimum baseline — stable operation is not guaranteed.
Meeting or exceeding the requirement does not prove the game is bug-free. High-end systems have reported launch crashes too.
Recommended is closer to GTX 1060 / RX 580 with 16 GB RAM, but the minimum decides whether normal troubleshooting even applies.
Crash console
Diagnose the crash
Describe the crash once. The console filters the fixes, flags dangerous steps and routes you to the right page.
Platform
Consoles never see Windows driver or renderer steps. Steam Deck and Linux have their own pages.
Where does it crash?
Pick the moment the crash happens. It decides which branch and which fixes matter.
Can you reproduce it?
A repeatable crash points at a game trigger; a random one points at runtime stability.
What does the crash message say?
Copy only the first error line. Never share a full crash dump.
Current branch
Current branch
The branch changes as you answer. It only reorders the checks; it never hides the account-free basics.
Ordered fixes
Fix the most likely layer first
Least invasive first. Stop as soon as the crash stops reproducing.
Level 0 — Check the current crash status
Official current status- Why
- A known launch stability issue may be behind the crash and is not something you can fix locally.
- Do
- Read the current status card and the updates hub before changing anything on your system.
- Expected
- You know whether a known stability issue is already being worked on.
Can you still reproduce the crash?
Don't do these first
- Disable your antivirus or firewall as a standard step.
- Change DNS settings to fix a crash.
- Reinstall the game before checking overlays and the rendering path.
- Run a random third-party "crash fix" executable.
- Reset Windows or reinstall the operating system.
- Repeat a crash that restarts the PC.
Still broken?
Still Broken After These Checks?
Report it through the official channel instead of trying more invasive repairs. A specific report gets counted.
Never include your password or an authentication code in a report.
Handoff
When a crash is not the right owner
Some reports look like crashes but belong to another page. Route them deliberately.
FAQ
Minecraft Dungeons 2 crashing FAQ
Short answers to the most common crash questions.
Why does Minecraft Dungeons 2 keep crashing?
Crashes come from several different families: startup, graphics, repeatable triggers and system stability. There is no single published root cause.
Is my PC the problem?
Not necessarily. Mojang has acknowledged launch-period crash and stability problems and says hotfixes are in progress.
What does EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION mean?
It is an Unreal Engine access error. It does not name one cause; an overlay, the renderer, the driver or an asset can all produce it.
Should I reinstall the game?
Not first. Reinstalling does not diagnose a runtime conflict, and launch-week crashes have been fixed by closing overlays instead.
Does forcing DirectX 11 help?
It has helped some PC players at launch. The official spec lists DirectX 11 support, but forcing it is a community workaround, not an official fix.
Why does it only crash in water or on explosions?
A repeatable trigger makes a game-specific rendering bug more plausible. Record the exact location, action and graphics settings.
Why does my whole PC restart?
That is a system-level failure, not an ordinary game crash. Check thermal, power and driver stability and stop repeatedly reproducing it.
Where do I report a crash?
Use the official bug tracker with your platform, game version, crash stage, trigger and message. This page builds the summary for you.
