Save editor guide

Minecraft Dungeons 2 Save Editor & Save File Guide

Back up, find and safely edit your offline hero. Before editing anything, check whether your hero is stored locally.

Always create a backup before you edit a save.

What kind of hero are you using?

This decides everything else. A local save editor can only reach an Offline hero.

Save editor status

Current Save Editing Support

Support depends on the hero type and the platform, not on the game alone. This reflects what community tools can currently reach.

  • Offline HeroesSupported by current community tools (PC)
  • Online HeroesNot locally editable
  • Xbox App / PC Game PassCommunity editor available
  • SteamCompatibility varies and needs local verification
  • ConsoleNo normal local editing workflow

Quick answer

Can You Edit Minecraft Dungeons 2 Saves?

Offline PC heroes can currently be edited with community tools. Online heroes are stored on the game's backend and are not locally editable with ordinary save editors. Tool compatibility currently differs between Steam and Xbox App / PC Game Pass, so check your platform and game version before editing.

This page is about managing your own save safely. It does not host or automate save editors.

Compatibility

Where Do You Play?

Pick your platform to see whether a local save workflow is available and what to check first.

Choose your platform to see what applies.

Before you edit

Back Up Your Save First

Editing is the second step, not the first. A backup is the only reliable way back.

  1. 1.Close Minecraft Dungeons II completely.
  2. 2.Locate or let your tool detect the save.
  3. 3.Copy the entire save container or folder, not a single file.
  4. 4.Store the copy somewhere separate from the live save.
  5. 5.Record your game version and the date.
  6. 6.Only then open an editor.

Save location

Where Is My Save?

The location depends on your platform. For Steam the exact path still needs local verification, so treat it as "confirm, then edit".

Xbox App / PC Game Pass

Structure documented

Community tools document the local save layout and can detect it automatically, so you usually do not need to browse it by hand.

Steam

Needs local verification

Community reports point to a local save folder, but the path is not confirmed for every install or game version. Do not edit until you confirm it on your own save.

How to confirm your Steam path

  • Save an Offline hero, then close the game.
  • Find the files that changed most recently in the suspected folder.
  • Note the newest file timestamps before you change anything.
  • Restart the game and confirm the same hero loads from there.

Console (Xbox / PlayStation / Switch)

Not a normal PC workflow

Console save data is platform-managed. This guide does not cover exporting, decrypting or bypassing protected system saves.

Current tools

Current Save Editor Options

Tools change quickly after launch. These cards describe compatibility, not a ranking.

Community offline save editor

Active

An open-source editor for local Offline heroes with its own backup and write verification. It targets the Xbox App / PC Game Pass layout.

Platform
Xbox App / PC Game Pass
Hero type
Offline heroes only
Local or upload
Open source, local
Backup
Built-in backup and write verification

Do not share the backups it creates. They can contain account-linked data such as a sign-in token.

Community PC save editor (mod release)

Temporarily unavailable

A second tool appeared soon after launch, but its page was hidden shortly afterwards while the author updates it and it was flagged for review. Do not treat it as recommended while it is unavailable.

This site does not host or mirror save editor downloads. Always get a tool from its original project page.

Upload-based editors

Be Careful With Online Save Editors

Upload-based editors ask for your whole save. Some state that uploads are kept to improve the service, so treat this as a privacy decision, not just a tool choice.

Check before you upload

  • Is it local or does it upload your save?
  • Is the source available, or is it closed?
  • Is your save stored, and for how long?
  • Does it support your platform and game version?

When in doubt, prefer a local tool, keep a separate backup, and never upload a save that contains account data you would not share.

Safe workflow

How to Safely Edit an Offline Hero

The button names belong to whatever tool you use. This process is what keeps a mistake from costing you the save.

Backup, one small change, verify, then continue

Change a single value, save, launch the game and check it. Only after that works should you make larger edits.

  1. 1.Confirm this is an Offline hero.
  2. 2.Close the game completely.
  3. 3.Back up the whole save structure.
  4. 4.Check your platform and editor build against your game version.
  5. 5.Open the correct hero in the editor.
  6. 6.Make one small change.
  7. 7.Save and let the tool finish writing.
  8. 8.Launch the game and verify the hero.
  9. 9.Confirm the change is present and stable.
  10. 10.Only then make larger changes.

Editing scope

What Can a Save Editor Change?

Community tools act on local offline data. The exact support depends on the tool and the game version.

  • Hero progress

Hero level, experience and progress values.

  • Currency

    Emeralds and other currency amounts.

  • Gear

Item rarity, item power and effects on gear you already have.

  • Inventory

Stored and equipped items, and inventory organisation.

  • Town progress

    Merchant, Blacksmith and Enchantsmith levels.

Internal field names, container revisions and raw asset identifiers are deliberately not shown here; they are implementation details, not player decisions.

Risk levels

Safe vs Experimental Changes

Not everything a tool accepts is something the game will keep. Match the edit to its risk before you commit.

Low risk
  • Small currency adjustments
  • Organising your inventory
  • Restoring your own backup
Medium risk
  • Changing existing gear
  • Item power
  • Hero progression
  • Town progression
High / experimental
  • Impossible item combinations
  • Unsupported or guessed IDs
  • Extreme levels or item power
  • Unknown fields you do not understand

Game-valid is not the same as editor-accepted, and editor-accepted is not the same as save-file-valid. Stay within known game-valid ranges unless you are deliberately testing.

Cloud sync

Cloud Saves and Sync Conflicts

A cloud service can restore an older revision of a save and silently overwrite your edit.

Cloud sync is not the same thing as a backup.

New revision accepted

The edit survives.

Older revision wins

The edit disappears.

This has happened with early community tools: the edit looked correct, then the cloud put an older revision back. Keep a separate copy so a sync conflict never costs you the save.

Why Did My Edited Save Revert?

What it looks like

The edit appeared in game. You restarted the game. The old save came back.

Likely causes

  • Cloud sync restored another revision.
  • The editor version was outdated.
  • The game saved after the editor loaded.
  • The wrong hero was edited.
  • The wrong platform path was used.

What to do first

  1. 1.Stop. Do not edit again immediately.
  2. 2.Check your backups.
  3. 3.Identify the newest valid save.
  4. 4.Restore it.
  5. 5.Verify the hero before making any new change.

Recovery

How to Restore a Backup

Restoring is the same discipline as editing: game closed, whole structure, verify after.

  1. 1.Close the game completely.
  2. 2.Keep the broken files for now; do not overwrite them yet.
  3. 3.Find your last known-good backup.
  4. 4.Restore the whole save structure, not a single file.
  5. 5.Launch the game and verify the hero.
  6. 6.Only then clean up any extra copies.

Scope

Online vs Offline Heroes

Local editing only ever applies to Offline heroes. Moving a hero between Online and Offline is a decision, not a save trick.

Online Hero

Stored on the game's backend, so local save editors cannot reach it.

Offline Hero

Stored in local PC save data, so backup and community editing may be possible.

Trying to convert a hero between Online and Offline?

That choice belongs to the hero mode decision, not to a save editor. Changing mode to make a hero locally editable is out of scope here.

What this guide does not cover

  • Editing Online Hero data on the game's servers.
  • Account or entitlement manipulation.
  • Bypassing platform security or protected console saves.
  • A full trainer or cheat tutorial.
  • Hosting, mirroring or automating save editing for you.

Privacy

Don't Share Your Full Save Backup

A backup is not only your hero. On some platforms it can include account-linked data such as a sign-in token, so never post a full backup when you ask for help.

  • What you were trying to do.
  • Your platform.
  • Whether the hero is Online or Offline.
  • The exact editor name and version.
  • The exact error message, with personal details removed.

This site will not ask you to upload a full save to get help.

Save Editor Guide Freshness

Save editing is patch-sensitive and platform-sensitive. Tool support, save paths and game versions change quickly, so verify against the current version before editing.
